THERAPEUTIC RIDING

Constance, our equestrian simulator, enables people with physical and/or mental disabilities to enjoy horseback riding.

Therapeutic riders can ride interactively in large natural areas.  The system is fully adaptable to the reality of each rider.  It can be completely interactive or certain functions can be deactivated.  For example, the effect of the legs could be deactivated if required.  The intensity of movement can also be adapted for riders with greater challenges in terms of tone or spasticity, for example.

The simulator can help with joint mobility, muscle tone, balance, coordination, spatial orientation and general posture.

Examples of conditions that can benefit from an equestrian simulator: cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, autism, global developmental delay, trisomy 21, ataxia, head trauma, neurological impairment (e.g. following a stroke), intellectual disability, etc.

Some reasons to practice on an equestrian simulator  :

  • To validate whether taking lessons on a real horse is a realistic and safe option;

  • To learn the basics with a goal, if possible, to go to a therapeutic riding center on real horses;

  • Take the next step: for example, start trotting or cantering and then return to your local therapeutic riding center;

  • Continue or maintain skills during the winter season (if your center is closed or if the rider's condition prevents him/her from riding in the cold);

  • Work with your health specialists or ours to offer you the training or rehabilitation best suited to your situation;

  • Integrate physically and mentally stimulating exercises in a safe, fun environment.

Our aim is to work in collaboration with therapeutic riding centers in Quebec, so that more riders with a disability can have access to riding on a real horse.  We want to complement therapeutic riding centers.  If a rider can't practice on a horse, we want to offer the most realistic simulation possible, so that he or she can have fun and make progress while enjoying the benefits of riding, both physiologically and psychologically.

Quiet, safe, wheelchair-friendly environment.

A medical approbation is required to validate that the rider is fit to ride on a simulator.
